The Skin Deep database is pretty well-known by this point, but I wanted to link to it anyway, because it’s a good resource:
The American government doesn’t require health studies or pre-market testing of the chemicals in personal care products, even though just about everyone is exposed to them. Through Skin Deep, we put the power of information in consumers’ hands. When you know what’s in the products you bring into your home and how those chemicals may affect your health and the environment, you can make informed purchasing decisions — and help transform the marketplace.
You can search for a brand, product, or ingredient and learn more about the potential risks associated with them. Now, I’m not a scientist or doctor, obviously, and as I’ve said before, it was primarily vanity that steered me toward natural products (they just work better for me), not health concerns. But I think it’s always good to be well-informed, especially about things you put on your body.
